Bridge Study
Is anyone familiar with the cost of building a bridge? Even a little one? I was shown this engineer study from 2006. It includes the estimated cost of replacing our bridge over the spillway. I was SHOCKED! I asked if I could scan it and put it up for all to see, and here it is.

I've never been to the American Legion in Palmyra, MO before. I haven't even been to Palmyra either. I won't be able to say that after Saturday night (Sept 20th). I'm sure this will be a good time with lots of friendly people. If they know Donnie and Julie they must be good people. If someone wants to ride with Maria and I from the lake, send me an email or stop by and let me know.
These photos are from Corrie Noble, Rick Adamire, Kevin & Karen Semrow, Beth Davis, and Carol Genck. It's our very own, Kevin Semrow. You can choose whatever you like and Kevin can make it happen with his chainsaw. His creativity and attention to detail is second to none. You'll be impressed and probably never forget where you live. This is some amazing work. If you'd like a custom log cut, call Kevin at 319-795-4973. (click on the photos for a closer look)
At the 2014 annual meeting some folks thought we should get a Facebook page. As of August no one put one out there so I set one up. A lot of what you'll see is also on the website. But you'll also see posts and comments from friends of LOTO that you would NOT see on the website, which makes it interesting. Post your photos, share what's going on, etc. Tons of people are on Facebook so it's a great way to get our name out there and have some fun.
The weather has been sunny and hot, with a little humidity. Turned out better than it the forecast predicted. A little rain last night and today is nice and breezy. I wasn't in the zone when it came to taking photos but it's been an active weekend. The Labor Day gathering was a success. Bill Davis provided the pork from his smoker and no one brought a bad dessert. Plenty of pontoons were out with many pulling the younger ones on tubes. Kayakers were littered all over the place as well. And it's till not the end of the holiday weekend.
Bob Bergman does an excellent job with the newsletter. It's posted on the News/Information page. Here's some info from the newsletter that sure to be popular with you and your guests this fall.
I stole these photos from Rick Adamire's Facebook post. Beth Davis commented that Bill's rain gauge said the lake got 5.1 inches. It's really going over the spillway and look and see how high it is at the beach! I've been asked how many people come to the website, what's the most popular area of it, etc. Here's what I can see as far as statistics. These are Month to Date numbers for August so far. You can see what pages people click on the most and how many times. Search terms tell you what people are entering in their search browser that results in this site coming up for them. Then it tells you what search site or referring site is sending people to this site. The graph shows the daily number of people that are hitting the site. For example, the dot at the far left tells me that in the last full day (yesterday) about 200 people visited the site. You can click on the graphic for a larger view. Thought you'd be interested.
I realized this morning that I had not posted the June 2014 newsletter on the News/Information page. It's there now.
New brother-in-law had to hold the fish for my new niece. She caught the catfish off the dock and I have NEVER seen anyone catch a catfish from there. New relatives had a good week at the cabin. Old sister had a good time as well. They've all enjoyed the lake before and this past week was no exception. The weather has been great this summer with maybe a little rain now and then.
I received this in an email from Carol. She tried to say that Bill put her up to it. If you know Bill you know he would never do anything like this. Click on the photo for a closer look.
I'd like to build a History page on the website. This photo comes from Stanley Varner, a long time resident of the lake. If you have old photos of the lake that would help illustrate its evolution, I would like to scan them for the website. I will return the photos you give me and they will not be damaged in any way. You can email me if you have some, my address is tchornstein@gmail.com I'll make arrangements with you to get the photos by mail or I can pick them up at the lake. Also, if you would like to give them to Bob Bergman, he can get them to me. This could really get interesting if we can gather photos from many sources. Click on this image to see a brochure from the early 80's as well. Provided by Stanley Varner. Recieved this today from Gary Buch. The slab looks great Gary. Hope everything goes well and you can get started on the cabin again.
"yay! finally got the slab poured. contractor did a great job. unfortunately, this "step forward" was met by a huge "step backward." on 7/9 my wife underwent knee replacement surgery. she developed a blood clot that cut off circulation to her lower leg, and this was not cared for in a timely fashion. she was flown to Barnes and after a week and half and some surgeries, the doctors think they saved her leg. she has a long recovery road ahead of her. building a cabin is the last thing on my mind right now. I ask that you all pray for my wife, Kathryn. most of you don't know us. we haven't been over at the lake the last two yrs very much because of my wife's lack of mobility. she was taking a step to improve that and this happened." Everyone seems to like the umbrellas that are down at the beach. Many people have asked me where I got them. They are $20 each at Sam's Club.
Maria and I purchased the ones that you've seen at the beach (as in NOT with beach funds). We decided that when we are at the lake, we'll put them out on the beach and share them with our fellow lake owners. Others have already purchased some themselves. They are very good quality for $20 but you wouldn't want to keep them up if it got too windy or a storm was coming. I usually take them down then. It was Maria's idea to get them. When we put on the hot dog beach opening event, she thought the beach needed some color. For $60 I think the three of them have been a hit so far. The 2014 Independence Day weekend was a great time at the lake. Temperatures were mild and made for a great day and comfortable nights. It rained on Saturday and cancelled the boat races. Thanks to Beth Davis and Sandy Clinton for the nice shirts the kids received for registering for the race. The races have been rescheduled for Labor Day weekend. The Fish Fry was well attended and the raffle was a success. Other than a little rain, it was a great weekend.
